Dr. Sood grew up in Albany, New York. He attended Union College in Schenectady, New York, graduating with a pre-medical focus and earned a BS with a dual major of Biology and French. He attended Albany Medical College, New York and graduated in 1984. He completed 5 years of Residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then completed his Plastic Surgery Residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio in 1991. He went on to a hand, nerve, and microsurgical fellowship at the Raymond Curtis Hand Center, John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in 1992. Dr. Sood is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with added qualifications in hand and microsurgery.

After completing his training, Dr. Sood joined the faculty of the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana and became a member of University Plastic Surgeons based at the IU School of Medicine. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Surgery in 1996. He became the Medical Director of the Richard Fairbanks Burn Center in 1992, which is a nationally recognized center for burn care and wound healing. He serves on the Christel DeHaan Foundation Board of Directors, the Peoples Burn Foundation Board of Directors and various hospital committees. He has presented over 100 papers nationally and internationally. He has won numerous awards for his research interests, including his primary research interest of assessing the physiological effects of breast reduction surgery. He has assisted in the production of multiple public service announcements and video tapes intended to assist families and children with burn and fire prevention.

Dr. Sood has achieved a prominent national and international reputation and is a well known investigator and national leader in research and clinical experience in emerging technologies for skin replacement. He has been awarded multiple grants and has written over 30 articles and 16 book chapters. He has edited and co-authored the book "Burn Reconstruction and Rehabilitation" (2006).

Most recently, Dr. Sood was nominated as one of AMERICA'S TOP DOCTORS in PLASTIC and RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY, one of only 60 physicians so nominated in the State of Indiana (2005 & 2013).  In August of 2013, he was named the Dr. Sanford and Thelma Glanz Professor of Plastic Surgery, Chief, Division of Plastic Surgery, Program Director, Plastic Surgery Residency, and Medical Director of IU Burn Center.

Dr. Sood's primary interests include cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, cosmetic surgery of the trunk and body, burn reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, and reconstructive surgery after massive weight loss. His background and 14 years of experience at Indiana University bring a unique experience and focus to his reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery practice.

Dr. Sood's primary practice goals are to provide patients with high quality, safe care for their reconstructive or cosmetic needs. His philosophy is to treat every patient as if they were a member of his own family. His support staff, including secretaries and nurses, is specifically trained to further his practice philosophy, and to help patients make informed decisions regarding surgical options for their care.
