Eyelid Sugery FAQ

What are the risks of eyelid surgery?

Risks associated with eyelid surgery are blurred vision, dry eyes, swelling and bruising. Sometimes ectropion can occur, where the eyes are unable to close completely. This will increase dry eye symptoms and sometimes further surgery is necessary to correct this problem. Several medical problems can make eyelid surgery more risky. Please inform Dr. Sood of all medical conditions including, but not limited to: hypothyroidism and Graves' disease, dry eye or lack of sufficient tears, circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, detached retina, and glaucoma. If you have any of the above conditions your ophthalmologist will need to examine you before your procedure.

Will the scars be visible?

The scars will remain slightly pink for several months following the procedure. They will eventually fade into a thin white line which is barely visible.

Will eyelid surgery affect my eyesight?

In the first few weeks following surgery you may notice that your eyes are sensitive to light, tear excessively or are extremely dry, and have a hard time focusing. These symptoms are temporary. You may find that using the recommended eye drops help. If you experience any unusual symptoms or have questions please call the office.

Will I need to stay overnight in the hospital after my procedure?

Eyelid surgery is usually done as an outpatient procedure unless you are having other procedures done at the same time.

When will my sutures be removed?

The sutures are removed between 5 and 7 days following your procedure. Please call the office to make an appointment to have these removed.
